The word "Paniyiri" in Greek translates to coming together and is essentially about connecting with the things that really matter - family, friends, food, fun and your community. For over 40 years, the annual Paniyiri Greek Festival has brought a touch of Greece to Musgrave Park, South Brisbane. Held on the third weekend in May, this two day event is Queensland's largest cultural celebration sharing all things Greek.
There's much to see and do at Paniyiri with non-stop entertainment, activities, displays and demonstrations scheduled throughout the weekend. Traditional and modern Greek music played on authentic Greek instruments will enchant and bring out the inner dancer in all, so join in the Zorba, Sousta, Kalamatiano and Sirto or watch one of our many costumed dancing groups perform traditional village dances.
Food is one of the many highlights of the festival, with more than 30 Greek food stalls showcasing the mediteranean aromas, flavours and tastes of Greece. Enjoy mouth-watering servings of Haloumi, Moussaka, Souvlaki, Gyro, Yiros, and Calamari followed by delightful sweets such as Baklava and Loukoumades.
Traditional Greek Cooking Demonstrations are an opportunity to experience tastings and competitions by celebrity chefs, renowned Greek chefs and home cooks.
Fabulous family entertainment continues throughout the weekend with must-see activities and competitions including Plate Smashing, Grape Stomping, Olive and Honey Puff eating.
