The Royal Queensland Show has long-been a favorite national institution in Australia, attracting over 400,000 people to this popular annual event. Today, the EKKA retains the same grass-roots celebrations of regional food, drink, competition, and display of yesteryear, while a dash of the glitzy and glamorous, high-energy and adrenaline pumping Carnival excitement has been added for good measure.
Held at the Brisbane Showgrounds, the EKKA is a true celebration of agriculture bringing the country and the city together for 10 days in August. Pastoralists wash, brush and parade their stock; farmers display their crops; cooks try to win "best preserves"; friends watch the show jumping and fashion shows, kids pat alpacas and visit the carnival and people eat, drink, shop and enjoy a good day out.
As at every show, through all these activities, exhibitors, sellers and spectators are learning about agriculture; about how, where and why we produce our food.
Since 1876, the EKKA has provided a truly unique "Queensland" atmosphere, full of childhood memories and traditions which have been passed down through generations of families.
